How films are(n't) made

Been meaning to watch this for ages: Kevin Smith talking about his experiences working on an abortive relaunch of Superman with legendarily not-quite-right producer Jon Peters.

Very funny, and very interesting, and I'm sitting here trying to square it with Kevin Smith the dreadful, dreadful writer. How can this be the same man who made me feel cheated after seeing the overhyped Clerks? Is this guy really the same person who compared Revenge Of the Sith to Hamlet?
Reminds me of the old Harlan Ellison story about the first Star Trek movie, and the producer who insisted on having Mayans in it.

Mmm, I've seen a copy of what purports to be Kevin Smith's Superman script, and it... wasn't great. But I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that it's very hard to be sure of the authenticity of many of the scripts floating around the internet.

I did think the first ten minutes of Chasing Amy were pretty great though.

I've read that script too. The only thing that suggests it might be a Kevin Smith script is its rambling incoherence, and general air of smug self satisfaction.
Oooh, look at how alliterative my bitchiness maketh me.

I think Kevin Smith is a better storyteller than filmmaker. There's a video somewhere on YouTube of him talking about Ben Affleck going to Spielberg's house for Thanksgiving that's also very funny.

Awesome.

Have you read JJ Abrams Superman script? Fucking terrible.

I love Kevin Smith. Laughed my ass off throughout Zack and Miri.

Don't get me started on JJ "I haven't got an original thought in my head" Abrams. As bad as I think Smith is, at least he tries to be original...I think.

I agree with Mike. And -- It's worth watching all of "An Evening with Kevin Smith" -- I think it's actually funnier than any of his movies. And I do actually like his movies.

I'll tell you what's not funny. JJ Abrams script for Superman. Horrendous. It's like someone re-wrote the Bible and made Jesus a pimp. Which, when you consider the whole Mary Magdelene thing...hmmm...
Anyway, it's dreadful, the Abrams script I mean, not the Bible. The Bible's alright I suppose, especially the bit where he comes back to life and starts kicking Orc ass, and...oh, wait, that's not...

That;s hilarious!

I sort of miss the worlds that get created in Kevin Smith movies. They were always quite.. cosy. I know. Weird.
